• At the age of 70, Parkinson's Disease got my attention...

“I’m not a natural athlete and working out with a boxing trainer was never on my horizon of interests. Then, at age 70, Parkinson’s Disease got my attention. My neurologist prescribed boxing training. It has helped me move better and think more clearly. VC is a key part of that experience. He’s my third trainer and he’s a natural. Positive, friendly and just demanding enough to be sure we don’t waste our hour together. He understands PD and the damage it does. He encourages me when I’m not motivated and the sessions are fun! He pretends to get my jokes and I’ve never been hit so, what’s not to love about the guy?”

  • I can now throw a right cross, left hook, uppercuts, and a nasty shovel hook...

    “Expertise. Empathy. Enthusiasm. Encouragement.

That's what I get from Vinny Campanaro.

They add up to my exuberant, exhilarated exhaustion.

Vinny C. has been coaching me -- a 74-year-old with the expected debilitations of age -- for 3 years.

I can now throw a right cross, left hook, uppercuts and a nasty shovel hook. At first I thought it described a road construction machine.

I can pull, slip and roll. (Look it up.)

Thanks to Vinny (and my determination to beat disability) I've gone from the doldrums of self-pity to the smug self-confidence I vaguely recall from youth. I just get tired faster.

And Vinny gets it. He's an innovator, tuning lessons to my abilities, energy level, and curiousities. He innovates, with elegant combinations of movement that demand concentration and fluidity -- lost skill sets in later life.

If I have questions about the basics or the finer points of our exertions, he takes the time to explain and demonstrate -- without a hint of impatience or condescension.

I may be old and he may be young, but he shows a respect that I fully reciprocate.”

  • "He made things simple and fun, while still pushing my physical and mental boundaries."

“After a couple of months of covid and getting bored at home, I was looking for a new hobby to add to my daily routine. I came across Vinny as a complete novice. I knew nothing about boxing. After about a month of training with Vinny, things started to click. That is when I really started enjoying boxing. Vinny gave me great instruction and helped me build a great technical foundation. He made things simple and fun, while still pushing my physical and mental boundaries. He still called me on improper technique to make sure that I was training correctly. During those first six months of boxing with Vinny, I lost 25 lbs. A year a half later I'm still training with Vinny. He has been nothing but accommodating, personable, communicative, and encouraging. I highly recommend taking coaching with Vinny. Whatever level you may be at, Vinny has a lot to offer to help you get to that next level of technique, fitness, and overall fun. “

  • "Come join the fun!”

“Vinny’s energy makes the classes awesome! He is a friendly, kind, and highly skilled instructor. Vinny is attentive and patiently guides you through footwork and punches. His classes are a great workout, so come join the fun!”

  • "After 18 months of working with him, my hand-eye coordination, balance, strength, and cognitive symptoms have improved dramatically…"

“When I was diagnosed with young onset Parkinson’s a few years back, I read everything I could get my hands on about it. Regular intense exercise seemed to be the thing I came back to again and again. Boxing, in particular, was recommended by almost every publication that I saw. I knew I had to find a boxing coach that was knowledgeable and well trained in PD specifically. After searching the web and asking around, Vinny came to my attention. I gave him a try and never looked back. He is patient, adaptable to individual capabilities, and won’t let you quit. He always has a positive comment for me. After 18 months of working with him, my hand-eye coordination, balance, strength, and cognitive symptoms have improved dramatically… as has my overall confidence. He has become a trusted part of my care team. Even more, he has become a friend. I trust him to help me “fight back” as a Parkinson’s Fighter.”

  • "I cannot recommend him enough!!"

“I’ve been working out with Vinny for over 2 years. I started in his group classes and then transitioned to 1 on 1s. I can not recommend him enough!! He is extremely knowledgeable and fun to work with. Boxing is by far the most fun type of work out I’ve had and Vinny really takes the time to explain every move and make you feel comfortable. I always leave a session feeling great and confident. If you like high energy and community def take the group classes, if you like a little more attention and working towards specific goals, 1 on 1s are the way to go! Or best of both worlds and do both!!”

  • "Vinny puts a lot of focus on technique and form..."

“I started taking classes with Vinny at another gym back in 2019. When covid forced the gym to close up, I thought I would be putting everything I’d learned to the wayside.

When Vinny started teaching boxing on the beach, I was thrilled to continue my training. Classes are dynamic, and always a little different from the last. He does a great job of giving a variety of exercises to keep things interesting and challenging. Vinny puts a lot of focus on technique and form, all while being encouraging and positive. I feel like I’m really developing skills rather than simply getting a workout, and it shows. I’ve seen a lot of improvement over the last year!

On top of all this, class is really fun. And he’s created a great little community of aspiring boxers…whatever their goals may be. “
